CALL FOR ENTRIES

Everyone whose life has been touched by cancer is encouraged to submit artwork. Whether you are recently diagnosed, currently in treatment or years out, you are a survivor. And, whether you are a family member, friend, or medical professional, you are a caregiver. We would love for you to share your journey through this project.

ELIGIBILITY

  • The Living Proof project is open to all cancer survivors as well as family members and caregivers, age 18 or older, who live on North Carolina’s Outer Banks or who have some other connection to the Outer Banks.

  • Only original, signed work will be accepted.

  • We regret that we cannot accept any work created by someone who is deceased.

  • All artwork must be for sale. Dare Arts will retain 40 percent commission; artist payments will be mailed by August 15.

GUIDELINES

  • Each artist may submit up to three entries in any art medium. Entries must be original and signed by the artist.

  • All work must be ready for exhibition with entry form included. Paint must be dry and frameable work must be framed. If a piece is intended to be hung, the back must be wired or float-mounted. Saw-tooth picture hangers are not acceptable. Two-dimensional pieces may not exceed 60 inches in height or width. Three-dimensional pieces may not exceed 6 feet in height or diameter.

  • We ask that each artist include a brief narrative about how your piece relates to your cancer journey.

  • All artists are asked to email an “Intent to Submit” by June 17 to cawthon31@gmail.com. Please include your name, type of work (painting, sculpture, poem, song, etc.), and the title.

  • Performance art must be submitted as a video. Artists must be available to perform at the July 5 first Friday opening if asked. Deadline for video submission is June 17, and notification of those asked to perform/read will be made by June 24. Poets and authors of narrative work may also be asked to read at the opening.

  • Submissions are to be dropped off in person at Dare Arts on June 26, 27 and 28. A link on the website will be available in May for artists to choose a drop-off date and time. If you are unable to drop off your work in person and need assistance, please contact Kathy Cawthon, cawthon31@gmail.com.

  • Dare Arts and Visionary Artists Group reserve the right to photograph entries for publicity purposes. We also reserve the right to refuse any entry.

  • Visionary Artists Group and Dare Arts shall not be held responsible for loss or damage from theft, fire, vandalism, or any other cause.

  • The show will close July 27. Artists must pick up unsold work on July 30 between 10 am and 5 pm.
